The sustainable tourism strategy and action plan for Harghita County has been completed, providing a comprehensive framework for the future development of tourism in the region.

The document is based on a detailed situational analysis and defines the main directions and interventions across six key areas, including the protection of natural resources, preservation of cultural heritage, community engagement, and the development of a sustainable tourism offer. The strategy places special emphasis on strengthening year-round tourism, promoting climate-conscious approaches, and enhancing the active role of local businesses and communities.

The goal is to establish a competitive and sustainable tourism system that preserves the county’s natural and cultural values in the long term, while contributing to the strengthening of the local economy and communities.

The strategy was preceded by extensive research, which resulted in the Sustainable Tourism Impact Study of Harghita County. The study analyzes the county’s tourism supply and demand through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
